Gone Fishing is a family run small business operating in Cooktown since 2002.
Originally from England, owner and guide Mark has been passionate about fishing since he first picked up a rod aged 5. Inspired by his grandad, Mark spent most weekends and summer holidays fishing the local rivers. As an adult he fished the club match scene then the open match scene for money.
In 1999 having spent a year backpacking around Australia looking for fishing heaven, Mark and partner Ali moved permanently to Cooktown.
Mark is the most experienced guide operating in Cooktown; the business has grown through word of mouth and repeat custom. Mark loves having beginners and kids on the boat and enjoys showing people tips to improve their technique and catch rate.
Mark’s other passion is nature and our wildlife tours go further than any other. Mark will tell you about the flora the fauna including the many resident crocs. We are so confident about our intimate knowledge of the river that we offer money back if you don’t see crocs.
Over the years we have taken part in a number of TV shows, these have given our business great exposure and have allowed us to meet some fishing and outback icons including Ray Mears, ET, Les Hiddins and Matt Watson.
What makes us different? Our professionalism and consistent results. It doesn’t matter if you are doing a 2 hour croc-spotting tour or a 10 day fishing charter you will receive the same friendly, productive, value for money charter that will be remembered for a long time.
